So, you want to see the famous Lucha Libre in El Alto? The first thing you need to know is that the location changes depending on the day of the week. Getting there can be a bit of an adventure (and sometimes a headache), so here is the honest breakdown of how to find the action.
On these days, the fights take place at a specific venue known as La Casa de la Cholita.
- How to get there: We recommend taking a radio-taxi directly from your hotel in La Paz.
- The Reality: Even for locals, this spot can be super difficult to find. Street signs in El Alto aren’t always clear, and GPS can be tricky. Don’t try to walk there from a cable car station; it’s too far and confusing.

Tuesday and Thursday: “The Ratchet Cholet”
If you are going during the week, the show moves to a colorful and unique “Cholet” (Andean architecture).
- How to get there: You can use the Cable Car (Teleférico) system, which is beautiful but requires several transfers.
- Take the Purple Line (Línea Morada) from the center.
- Transfer to the Silver Line (Línea Plateada).
- Transfer to the Blue Line (Línea Azul).
- Get off at Plaza La Paz Station.
- The Walk: From the station, you have to walk a few blocks. It’s an interesting route, but stay alert and keep your phone tucked away.

Sunday is the biggest day for wrestling, held at the classic Municipal Coliseum.
- How to get there: You can take the Red Line (Línea Roja) Teleférico to the El Alto station (La Ceja).
- The Reality: While you can walk from the station, we do not recommend it. The “Ceja” area is extremely crowded and can be dangerous for tourists carrying cameras or bags, especially after the show when it gets dark.
